Welsh Pickleball Festival huge success in Bangor

Y Draig Goch (the red dragon) of Wales was flying high in Bangor at the start of September as Anglesey Pickleball staged the Welsh Pickleball Festival at the city’s university.

Around 150 players made their way to North Wales from all corners of the UK to join in the fun – even getting the chance to benefit from coaching clinics courtesy of Elaine Shallcross, Jane Portnell and Anthony McElvine.

Of course, there was also plenty of entertainment off the court as well, with a performance from a Welsh male voice choir (including one of the picklers) as well as a band comprising pickleball players, who really got the party started.

And two great causes benefited from a raffle, with prizes including two goody bags donated by Thaddea Lock. The money raised came to £2,000, which will be divided equally between Welsh Air Ambulance and Gorlin’s Syndrome, a rare cancer condition.

“We are extremely grateful to all those that supported the event’s success, especially those who donated raffle prizes,” said Katherine Knowles, one of the organisers, “not forgetting our three fantastic clinic leaders who gave up their time voluntarily to deliver some excellent coaching drills.”
