The David Lloyd Club at Emersons Green have once again been recognised as the brand’s best club in the UK for pickleball.
They have been ranked top out of the 134 clubs in the country.
Coach Jeff Burley says that the social and community aspect of pickleball makes it particularly popular for those looking to stay active – and that it has become an integral part of the David Lloyd Clubs experience.
“It was a privilege to be a key part in setting up the sport of Pickleball at David Lloyd Emersons Green,” he told Pickleball 52. “We began to offer this great sport in 2021.
“Pickleball is a sociable game, and we saw a brilliant opportunity to add a sense of ‘clubbiness’ through a growth in engagement. With the support of the club, we put together an excellent programme whereby we now deliver nine coached sessions per week, ranging from taster, beginner, intermediate and advanced sessions.
“Competition is always healthy in this group, and I have helped to arrange some interclub tournaments which have been a great success. We have a great community spirit at David Lloyd Emersons Green with pickleball central to many of the charity events held, one being for the Children’s Hospice Charity Southwest.
“Today with the help of my fellow coach David Dangerfield we look forward to new initiatives and growth.”
Rhys Brown, the club’s general manager, added: “It is incredible to see so many people enjoying pickleball at the club; the community it creates and the role it plays in engaging a variety of members is amazing.
“Pickleball really is a sport for all and there is no better place to demonstrate that David Lloyd Bristol Emersons Green. Jeff has even managed to get me on court, and I must say I love it!”
