Doncaster in South Yorkshire could be set to get a permanent three-court indoor pickleball club.
Plans have been submitted to create the club in a vacant warehouse at Shaw Wood Business Park in Wheatley, north of the city centre. The unit comes with 15 parking spaces.
City of Doncaster Council has not yet set a date to consider the proposal, but no objections from neighbouring businesses were lodged with the authority.
The courts would each be bookable for one-hour time slots and the site would be open to the public from 9am-8pm Monday to Friday, 9am-6pm on Saturdays and 10am-4pm on Sundays.
The units at Shaw Wood Business Park currently feature a beauty salon, ladies’ fitness centre and community centre.
A design and access statement forming part of the application said: “This proposed change of use will allow us to complete a facility that will give access for many to potentially improve their health and wellbeing, fitness, a positive impact on mental health, a new form of socialising and the ability to continue to play a sport competitively or non competitively regardless of ability and age, all whilst conducted in a safe and secure location.”
The three-court venue would match the facilities at Telford Pickleball which also has three indoor courts and opened last November.
