Leisure centres opening doors for World Pickleball Day

Leisure centres across England are offering the opportunity for new and novice players to have a go at pickleball.

It’s all part of the World Pickleball Day festivities led by Pickleball England.

There will be more than 50 free taster sessions across 22 Everyone Active sites, from Easton in Gloucestershire to Washington in Tyne and Wear.

“Pickleball has been a great new opportunity for Everyone Active to increase engagement within our centres,” says Craig Hughes, Everyone Active’s regional impact activity and wellbeing manager for the south-east region.

“The ease and simplicity of the sport makes it a great way for us to support people in being more active and we’ve seen an increase in the number of people using our centres to play both casually and as part of local clubs and groups.”

Leisure centres under the GLL/Better Leisure banner will also be taking part, and their national sports project manager Ibrahim Mehmet said: “Pickleball provides an opportunity for our communities to come together within our Better Leisure Centres and take part in sport, allowing them to stay active. Some of the core health benefits include improved cardiovascular endurance and lowering blood pressure.”

He added: “GLL offer a wide variety of sessions ensuring all customers can access the sport and enjoy a fun and social activity. On October 10th, our centres will be participating in World Pickleball Day, offering sessions and encouraging the local community to attend a free taster session within a social environment catering for all ages and abilities.”

And there are also some sensational special offers: for example, Bexhill Pickleball, based at the town’s leisure centre, are offering a free one-hour taster then £4 unlimited play between 11am and 9pm.
