Louis Laville warms up for Telford with 50th career gold

Louis Laville bagged a second straight triple crown at the Belgian Pickleball Open in Brussels to rack up 50 career pro gold medals.

Louis was the leader of a strong Brit pack to make the journey to the Belgian capital and flex their muscles ahead of next week’s Skechers English Open in Telford.

European champion Louis began his perfect weekend by taking the men’s singles title on Friday (26 July), beating Austria’s Stefan Grubmuller 11-7 11-2. Ben Cawston took bronze with a win over Stefano Mocciola.

In the men’s doubles on Saturday, he teamed up with rackets world champion Ben to conquer France/Spain duo Cyril Peltier and Silvio Martin Suarez 11-6 11-4. Brits Stuart Parminter and Emerson Gregory took bronze.

In the mixed, Hermione Baxter Chinery was Louis’ partner in crime and they beat Polish pair Paweł Jankowiak and Karolina Owczarek in the final.

Louie posted on Instagram: “Mixed with H is always fun! Played solidly to grind through the groups and then played really well all knockouts to get the win! Played some great stuff in the final against another great Polish pair!”

He added: “This tournament meant a lot to me, winning my 50th pro gold – a massive thank you to all of [my] partners over the years and support everyone has given me.”

Mollie Knaggs (pictured above left) was another notable British presence on the podium. The Hertfordshire-based player and coach joined US-based Evie Kenna in the women’s doubles final where they beat Eleanor Tomkinson and Jess Wilson 11-4 11-4.

Mollie was runner-up in the women’s singles to 26-year-old Karolina Owczarek from Poland who triumphed 11-4 11-8. The bronze medal match was an all-British affair with Jess Wilson taking on Ellie Tait, a recent convert from padel to pickleball, having previously played international hockey.
