Katie Morris heads to Bolton this weekend hoping to gather more medals hot on the heels of an exceptional Scottish Open last month.
Morris will be playing in her second-ever English Nationals, having competed in singles last year – and is looking forward to focusing on the doubles discipline this time round.
It’s one in which she shone in Glasgow, reaching the final of the women’s doubles with Hermione Baxter Chinory, and winning the mixed doubles with Louis Laville.
This time round, she’s partnering Emilia (Millie) Smythe in the women’s doubles on Saturday, and Tom Corfield in the mixed doubles on Sunday.
“Millie and I have teamed up a lot this year, so I’m hoping we can do well, but it’s going to be super tough,” she told Pickleball52.
“Every pair is really strong, and I feel like anyone could win on the day, so it’ll come down to who plays well on Saturday. It’s a testament to the growth of the sport: there’s now a lot of strong female players, which even in the last year has come on massively.
“Mixed doubles will be interesting – lots of great pairs, so it’ll be very competitive, which is what we all want: lots of tough games to test ourselves and see who’ll come out on top.
“Tom is playing great at the moment so I’m really looking forward to playing and seeing how well we can do.”
