Travel, backhands, and self-empowerment: The pickleballers’ New Year’s Resolutions

We asked some of pickleball’s leading lights: “What is your New Year’s resolution for 2025?”

Thaddea Lock: “To be more consistent with my mobility routines to help me on court.  To explore and see more of the places I’m lucky enough to get to travel to with pickleball.”

Mollie Knaggs: “To make sure I look after my peace and practise the self-empowerment that I teach other women.”

Louis Laville: “Learn to hit a backhand from the back of the court! Grind more hands battles.”

Julie Mac: “To be fitter, to be stronger, and to play more pickleball!”

Richard Love: “I tried to think of non-pickleball related resolutions but failed miserably. This year is going to take some beating, but I would love to challenge myself against some of the best players in the world. I hope to get the chance to go out to the States and play a couple of PPA/APP Senior Pro events. I want to get fitter and continue to grow my coaching business.”

Tom Corfield: “My New Year’s resolution is to enjoy the downtime more. I like to be busy. Those close to me know I get anxious if I don’t have plans in the evenings or weekends but sometimes it is good to have a day off and switch off. I plan to embrace these breaks.”

Louise Stephens: “To try my best to make sure that Franklin Pickleball Club opens and is a welcoming and fun venue for everyone.”

Karen Mitchell (chair, Pickleball England): “To play more pickleball. I often miss club sessions to attend meetings and I want to ensure that I get to play at least a couple of times a week in 2025.”

Nathan Parker (Wales international): “My New Year’s resolution is to continue and commit even more to my fitness journey. I am currently three stone down and more than halfway to my ‘fighting weight’. The fitness industry has always told us consistent, slow and steady progress is the way forward and it’s taken me to the ripe age of 31 to really understand this fully.”
